A Crafternoon Party (An Arts and Crafts-themed Birthday)

It was a dear friend's birthday celebration on May 16. But she celebrated her birthday early. And we're fortunate to be there.

It's on the invitation - Crafternoon Party. Two words that set the theme for a unique birthday celebration.

The venue. I walked inside the Belleville Cafe I and it felt like entering a piece of rachelle aswell's shabby chic home. It was the perfect place to showcase our craft prowess.

The crafter-host and stylist. Femi Cachola, our very creative crafter of Gawa ni Femi, styled the place and hosted a workshop-like program. I think she really did a great job. From the flower balls to She's photo block to the wooden heart-shaped plates with each guest's name to the mesh carry on bag... Every detail was taken cared of. Everything was well-thought of.

Femi Cachola of Gawa ni Femi gives some pointers before we started our craft work.

Activities. Each guest were given a set of three paints, wide brush, fine tipped brush, a stick and a pencil with enough masking tape. We were also given a pot with a succulent plant, flat stones and a magnet button. Before we started, Femi gave u some ideas as to how we can design our pots and stones. She mentioned that we can use the eraser of our pencils to stamp circles or we can use the masking tape to create patterns or mask areas we don't want to paint on. After her pointers, she left us to work our creative magic.

First, we painted our pot. Then we went on with the flat stones. Sky's the limit when it comes to design. A space was setup so we can get more paints and supplies as needed. When the paints have dried, Femi assisted us in applying an emulsion to preserve our creations and make it more glossy.

It was very therapeutic since we don't do these kinds of activities on a regular basis. And it's not often that we get to create something artsy and tangible. It was really a fun experience.

One artsy bunch
Food. Finger foods were served even before we got started. There were chips, and mini cupcakes to tide hunger pangs. Then we were served pastas and sandwiches. I specially love the chicken sandwich - wheat bread smothered with flaky chicken spread and caramelized walnuts.

To She, thank you for the fab crafternoon party. And for giving us a reason to be inspired and be artistic. May we always be in pursuit of our best creative self. With much love and appreciation, happy birthday!
