My first Apple gadget - the iPod Touch |
I bought my first Apple machine last year. The iPod Touch. Instantly, I became a convert. What I felt like I didn't need, suddenly became a staple in my daily life. It is the first thing that I hold in the morning because it's my alarm. It makes me wake my daughter up at 5:30 in the morning on weekdays (Genius! You can set it to alarm only on weekdays). It is the last thing that I hold in the evening because I like surfing the web lying down and don't want the hassle to turn on and turn off a laptop. It's my reliable companion during travel as I listen to music or recite the rosary with a rosary app. I do quick yoga poses with a yoga app or track calories with the calorie counter app. I write down thoughts for my blogs on the Blogger app. Every time a camera isn't available, iPod's camera is there and I can decide how my photo would look. I just need to choose from about 10 photography apps I installed. Plus points are the countless educational and entertaining apps for kids. It's now a challenge to get my daughter bored every time she uses it. Everywhere I go, it's with me. It's become a lifeline. A security blanket. So much for something I never thought I'll need. It revolutionized the way I listened to music, watched videos, write blogs, played games. Let's just say it gave a new dimension to the word - pastime.
I only knew Mr. Jobs through his gadgets and his ever charismatic keynotes. I admire him because he's a man who believes that there's a better and easy way to live our lives, and he went ahead and did it for us. I saw a renaissance man who passionately believed 101% that what he has to offer would change the world. And he had the guts to plunge into the unknown, to a place no one has gone before, to prove the world he was right.
Thank you Mr. Jobs for showing us that setbacks in life are nothing compared to what we can become... for teaching us that believing and doing - are keys to making our dreams come true... for showing us that talent wouldn't always cut it, most of the time, heart and drive gets us where we want to be.
When I found out that he died, I suddenly felt something familiar. Something I felt when Pope John Paul II and President Corazon Aquino died. I felt sadness and loss, because I knew for a fact that no matter how beautiful the tributes and messages and eulogies are, the world will move on without them, and it will never be the same again.
This award-winning Apple commercial is one of my favorites. It's really for my creative soul, I guess. A constant reminder to always "Think Different." Yes, Mr. Jobs, I hear you. "The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do." Farewell, Mr. Jobs. Thank you for your genius.
i, too, was not an apple fan... until the office gave me a laptop to use for work.
