So we were able to leave for Nami past 10am. This time, we took another route and go to Jongno3 ga station.
We took the dark blue/line 1 to Hoegi station transferred to light blue/line J to Mangu then transferred for the last time to Gapyeong.
The beautiful view going to Gapyeong is one for the books. Mountain sides are lined with flowers. And streets are still full of cherry-blossom-covered trees. If not for our children, Ramir and I might have gone down the train, took lots of photos and waste time staring. But we have kids to think about so on with our plan. Nami it is. We went down Gapyeong Station.
We have two options, ride a bus or take a cab. We went for the latter. We wanted to save time so the cab became the most viable option. We paid KW3500. In 10 minutes we're at the Gapyeong Wharf.
We bought tickets then waited in line for the ferry going to the island. It arrived in Nami Wharf after 15 minutes. The noontime sun was in its full glory so we decided to stay in the covered portion of the boat.
We arrived in Nami island after 10 minutes of sailing. There were trees all over. It was a nature lover's paradise. According to the leaflet that I got, Nami Island or Naminara Republic is situated 63 kilometers from Seoul in the middle of the Han River. It was named after General Nami, a notable figure in Korean history who courageously fought in battles but died at the age of 26. Today, the island has become a major tourist destination and a quick getaway for the locals.
Our family of four was so thrilled. I bought some food at the grocery store just near the entrance. We just had breakfast at yoo's and nothing more. We're famished to say the least. So with the loot I got, we satisfied our growling stomachs while seated on a bench surrounded by trees. Not bad for a starter. We strolled around the island, taking in as much as we can.
Below are the places we've been in Nami Island.
1. Tomb of General Nami
1. Tomb of General Nami
2. Central Korean Pine Tree Lane
6. Gingko Tree Lane and the Kimchi houses
7. Changpyeongwon Garden
8. Cherry Tree Lane with a temple-like structure
9. Sunrise Village
We walked, gazed, sat then walked, gazed and sat. It became a repetitive but enjoyable process.
We went home with tired feet but with very grateful hearts.
