I decided to join the bandwagon when I found out that my mom has a juicer that's she's not using. I was contemplating on buying one but decided against it because the makunat person in me isn't sure if I can commit to it. So I borrowed my mom's and started experimenting.
I tried to replicate Detox Bar's Green Blend. So I did an all green concoction - moringa (malunggay), celery, green apple, and cucumber. The result? Epic fail. It's quite bitter and a little bit spicy. Putting a whole bunch of celery was probably not a good idea.
I also juiced oranges. I did the stupid mistake of throwing in the whole thing, with the skin and the seeds. What happened? As expected, the juice tasted like there's skin and seeds in it. I gave this a second try. This time, sans the skin and seeds. Voila! It tasted like how I imagined it, at least in the beginning. I saved some for the next day's consumption. When I drank my stash, it has a little bitter aftertaste. I'm not really sure why. Oxidation probably. But I finished a bottle just the same.
But my biggest success so far, at least based on the approval ratings given by my daughters and husband, is my own Two for Two blend. It's the combined juice of two fruits - apple and orange and two veggies - carrot and cucumber. No water. No sugar. The ratio is 1:1:1:1. It has the right amount of sweetness. And if kept inside the chiller, it can stand from four to six days without tasting funny. I usually juice 1 kilo of carrot (around 6 pieces), 1 kilo of cucumber (around 6 pieces), 6 apples and six oranges. This would give me 4 bottles of juice which I consume once a day usually at night. I'm not doing this for diet or detox purposes. But I realized that if I drink just this and forego dinner with carbs, I sleep better. To juice or not to juice? You decide. Happy juicing!
P.S. I would like to thank my friends, Trina Sanchez and Sheryl Ramos for letting me recycle their bottles for my experiments.
