I Love Handwritten Letters

There's nothing wrong with emails but handwritten letters really warms my heart.  I like how a person's handwriting, emotions and current state of mind are documented on a sheet of paper. Sometimes, I feel letter writing is a dying art.  No one seems to be writing letters anymore.  That's why when I receive them, they always make me feel old-fashion and nostalgic. And I love it.

My daughter R loves writing letters.  And me, being the memory keeper, saves almost all of them.  For this blog entry, I would like to share two letters she's written.  From simple "I love yous" and "I miss yous" from her younger days, I think she has learned to express herself more by writing "longer" letters.  I hope she'll continue doing soHer letters has the capacity to make me feel happy, proud and giddy, all at the same time.

This first letter was a welcome back surprise. When I went to Cagayan de Oro to shoot the ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID for 2012, I was out for three days and two nights.  When I went home, R gave me this.

Here's what's written: "Dear Mama. Okay ka lang ba diyan? Mahal mo ko di ba? Maha na mahal na mahal kita. Kasi inaalagaan mo ko at tisaka minamahal mo ako.  Ako bahala sa yo pagka ma nagaway sa yo. Sabihin mo lang. Wag mong alalahanin si S akong bahala kay S. Ingat ka ha. Love R."

The second letter is for me and Ramir.  I didn't know her motivation.  She just showed us this letter.  I think it was one of those spur-of-the-moment notes.  A letter out of nowhere.

The letter says: "Dear Mama and Papa. I love you very much. Thank you for loving me, teaching me the truth, caring for me, teaching me what is right, for being good parents to me, and also protecting me from harm. From the rainbow sisters, R and S. We love you parents."

I hope my daughter S would also be writing letters soon.  At two years old, here's what she came up with - her own version of a circle and letter W.

P.S. Dear R and S. Thank you for the joys you've given us.  Remember that this blog is like an open letter to both of you.  All the memories with you are worth keeping.  Mahal na mahal.
