Braving Bacolod Series #1 - Tales from a Weekend Adventure

February 8.  A 6.8 magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of Negros Oriental.  With reported aftershocks and tsunami alerts, one would think that a vacation in a neighboring province was not very timely.  Well, timely or not, purchased tickets and confirmed reservations were good enough reasons not to postpone.  So after a week, we're off to Bacolod, the capital of Negros Occidental, the City of Smiles.

We were 5 Filipino adults with a Japanese national, a tween, 3 kids and a toddler.

We took the 7:55 am flight to Bacolod via Zestair.  It was S's first plane ride.  It was also a first for our Yayay.  The flight was a breeze and the aircraft was the best I've ridden in a local flight. It was huge, clean and it smells clean too.  I must say it made a good impression to our first timers and our foreign guest.

Ready for take off!

This is an account of our Bacolod adventure.  Click on the links for a more detailed kwento of our 3-day weekend getaway.

Mambukal Mountain Resort - From Silay airport, we headed to Murcia.  We stayed here overnight. And had a grand time.

The Suites at Calle Nueva - This boutique hotel isn't very popular.  But it's walking distance to everything - church, Manukan Country, jeepney stops, market, SM...  Quaint, affordable and nice... just the way we like it.

Food trippin' - Inasal, delicacies, sweets - the foodies are in for a treat.

Landmark hoppin' - architecture, history, culture?  Yup, they have those too.

It was a good three-day bonding with the family.  More fun in the Philippines indeed!
