Welcome to the (Bagoong) Club!

It wasn't a normal lunch. For one, all the department heads in our division would be eating together. That's a good thing. The better part was we wouldn't be shelling out a single centavo. But the best detail by far was the fact that it was really a treat by ABS-CBN's President Ms. Charo Santos-Concio for a job well done. The lunch date was set at the Bagoong Club in Quezon City. It doesn't happen everyday and if you've known how many times this lunch date was rescheduled, you'll get the drift that it doesn't come by easily. The pleasure of CSC's company comes like rain in the Sahara. And being the photo hoarders that we are, a photo op with the prexy is major, major.  Good thing Mrs. President is indulgent.

With ABS-CBN President, Ms. Charo Santos-Concio

I found out several stuff about CSC that I wouldn't have known if it weren't for this lunch.

1. She's very simple. Sans make up. No entourage when she came in for lunch. No fuss. No VIP Treatment.
2. She personally chooses the menu. And she has great taste in food. We loved what she ordered for us.
3. Even if she eats crispy pata with her hands, she's still very poised.
4. Her stories are gems. You wouldn't read them in books.
5. She's very down-to-earth and unpretentious. No qualms in requesting for leftovers to be packed and brought home.

So what did CSC ordered for lunch?

Green mangoes with shrimp paste
Manggang hilaw sa bagoong - Nakakangilong asim but perfect with the different bagoong blends

Bangus Belly in Guava Broth
Sinigang na Bangus Belly sa Bayabas at Bagoong - Just the right sweetness and sourness

Mixed vegetables with grilled pork belly topped with crushed pork cracklings
Pinakbet at liempo barbecue - vegetables are "it" for me.

Julienned sweet potato, carrots and shrimps
Ukoy - Towering, not the usual round ones but it's good.

The last three didn't reach my taste buds.  I have a long standing moratorium with pork and beef. Just recently though I broke my love affair with white rice (just brown rice for me).

Chopped pig's head, pork liver and chicken liver
Bagoong Club Sisig - smells good.

Cripy pork knuckles
Crispy Pata - looks krisping-krispy.
A different kind of rice
Bagoong Rice - can only imagine it.

What else did we order?

Dalandan Juice - I love this one. Washed down all the fat and oil and cholesterol.

Choco Tablea Mousse and Pastillas de Leche Cheesecake - the sweet finishers.

Bitter sweet mousse

Not your usual cheesecake

We shared these on our side of the table. The cakes were made by Chef Pixie Sevilla-Santos.  It says on the menu that it's made exclusively for Bagoong Club. I love the Pastillas de Leche Cheesecake. It's melt in your mouth goodness made it a struggle for me not to ask for another serving.

The ABS-CBN President. Our division's ManCom. Bagoong Club. Bongga! One unforgettable lunch.
